The Saturday Evening Toast
In August 2020, I launched The Saturday Evening Toast, a biweekly Substack newsletter that combines history, food, art and humor. It began as a way to stay connected with friends during the pandemic and grew into a broader creative project. Each issue centers on a specific theme—like "The Existential Issue" or "Figgy Pudding"—and features quizzes and a guest-written "Epilogue" essay, which allows contributors to share their own perspectives.
Now I’m writing Dispatch from Finland, a series documenting my life as an expat and the cultural differences between Finns and Americans. I use vintage postcards and photos found in Helsinki antique stores as a visual anchor for the series. This newsletter has evolved from a hobby into a research project, creative discipline, and golden thread connecting me to friends and family overseas.
